The Lake Hotel in Killarney is run by the Huggard family who have been running hotels in Kerry for 4 Generations. It all began in Waterville & Valentia Island in County Kerry in the early 1900's, our two Grand Parents tom be were Hotel Managers, Miss Doyle running the Southern Lake Hotel in Waterville & Miss Burns running the Royal Hotel in Valentia. Julia Mary Doyle married a Fisherman and Farmer who ran the Bay View Hotel in Waterville. Martin a Redmondite and a great friend of Tomas O'Donnell Redmondite also and MP for West Kerry, Mr O'Donnell made the match between Julia Mary Doyle and Martin Huggard. Mary born in Augrim County Wicklow had trained as a hotel manager with the Great Southern Hotels before moving to Waterville. Their eldest Children Noel, Maud & Hilda were born in the Bay view Hotel, Brendan, Patricia, Billy and Cicely were born in the Butler Arms Hotel which was bought in the late 20's . In 1930 Mary and Martin bought the Caragh Lake Hotel and the Royal in Valentia which made it 4 Hotels.
